The Benefits to you
The benefits to you as volunteer
Without our volunteers, Ottery Help Scheme would simply not exist. They are the life blood of our organisation and we are so lucky to have so many kind-hearted, generous spirited individuals in the local community willing to give up their time to help others.
We know our volunteers are important, and that is why we provide them with training, support and out of pocket expenses.
Our door is always open to any volunteer who has a question or concern and we always welcome feedback which may help us to improve our services.
Please see Our Services for information on the types of volunteer roles available.
With our services being ever more in demand, we are always looking for new volunteers to help us, even if it’s just for a few hours a week.
So what’s in it for you?....
Meeting new people
Volunteering is a fantastic way to become more closely involved in your local community. It’s a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and really feel like you’re making a difference to the lives of those around you.
Helping your community
Many of our clients are older, vulnerable and/or in ill-health – by helping us to provide, for example, our befriending service, you’re ensuring that an otherwise lonely and isolated person enjoys the company of another human being on a regular basis.
All of the services we provide are necessary and vital to those who benefit from them and as such every volunteering role is equally important and equally valued.
Out of pocket expenses
If you incur any expenses while performing your volunteer role, we will refund them in full. With regard to any fuel costs incurred, we refund this at £0.45 per mile.
Learning a new skill
By becoming a volunteer you may learn new skills which can often lead to increased confidence and a thirst to try new things!
Coffee mornings & social events
To ensure that the wheels of communication are well oiled, we hold regular volunteer coffee mornings at The Station, attended by our Chief Officer and Co-ordinators. This is a great opportunity to meet and have a chat with other volunteers and to pass on any feedback and/or concerns to our office staff.
We also have a volunteer Christmas party and often organise other social and fundraising events throughout the year, all of which you will be invited to attend.
We send out a regular E-newsletter to keep you up to date with what Ottery Help Scheme is up to and our ideas for the future.
